Naima slipped off her slippers as she entered the bathroom. Anyway what would she do with slippers on the slippery floor. Her feet felt free and light. She took off her clothes and carefully hung them to the two nails on the door. Oh ! what freedom !Then she slowly stepped backward on her toes, raised her hands and pirouetted with a perfect balance. She had watched the older girls in her school being taught by the the teacher. What a lovely thing dancing was.You could sway and slide and make your body do whatever you felt like\whatever you liked. She too did the same. Then there was a shout."What are you doing in the bathroom ?'' It was her mother. She hurriedly poured some water on herself, toweled and got out. Her father glowered at her.It was time for his office at the Secretariat where he typed and shouted at people below him.She knew because he seemed to be doing that all the time in the house. He wanted her to study, that was all.Mother whispered "How many times have I told you its time for your father's office, and anyway it's school time for you too."Naima looked meaningfully at her mother and asked her,"don't you feel like dancing? You never let me dance outside because you are afraid of that man." "You have become too argumentative these days. What will you do when you get married;I am really afraid about you"her mother argued.Naima looked at her defiantly and replied"I will be doing just what I am doing now, dancing in the bathroom.
